HERE helps people who are nearby meet for simple real-world plans — a coffee, a walk, coworking, food. This policy explains what we collect to make that work, who processes it on our behalf, how long we keep it, and the control you have over it. We do not sell your data, and we never share your precise location.
HERE (“HERE”, “we”, “us”) is the HERE mobile app, operated by Ethmane Didi, based in Norway. For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, Ethmane Didi is the data controller for the personal data described here. Our contact details are in section 14.
We only collect what the product needs to introduce you to people nearby and keep those introductions safe.
| Category | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Account | Email address and a securely hashed password. If you use a magic link, just your email. |
| Profile | First name, date of birth (used to show an age and to enforce the 18+ rule), short bio, city, neighbourhood, country, occupation, the connection goals you pick, and optional social / meeting / planning-style preferences. |
| Photos | The profile photos you upload. See section 5. |
| Interests & languages | The interests and languages you add to your profile. |
| Approximate location | A coarse, neighbourhood-level coordinate you set through the in-app place picker. Not continuous or background location. See section 4. |
| Activity | Plans you create or join, introduction requests, messages you send in plan conversations, your “on my way” and arrival status, and private post-meeting check-ins. |
| Safety | Reports you file or receive, blocks you set, and the outcome of automated and human moderation review. |
| Subscription | Whether you have an active HERE+ subscription and its renewal date. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — we never receive your card details. |
| Device & usage | A device push token (only if you enable notifications), and first-party analytics events such as which screens and features are used, to understand and improve the product. |
Precise or background location, your contacts, health or fitness data, your photo library beyond the images you choose to upload, advertising identifiers, or data from third-party trackers. HERE contains no third-party advertising.
Location is central to HERE, so we are deliberate about it. You set your area through a place picker — a city and neighbourhood, not a live GPS fix. From that we store a single approximate coordinate.
When you upload a profile photo it goes to private storage in a “pending” state and is not visible to anyone else yet. It is checked automatically — for a real human face and against rules on nudity, sexual content, illustrated or AI-generated images, and other prohibited content — before it can appear in discovery. Ambiguous cases are reviewed by a person.
For that check, the image is sent to our moderation provider (see section 6). Approved photos are re-encoded on our servers, which strips embedded metadata such as GPS coordinates, and then published. Rejected photos are not shown to others; you are told why and can upload a different one. We keep the original pending image only for the review and appeal window.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on:
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of these rights:
A first automated check decides whether a profile photo can be shown. It never restricts or removes your account on its own — a photo rejection can be appealed and re-submitted, and account-level action always involves a person.
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your data is enforced at the database row level so that, in normal operation, you can only reach your own records and the parts of others’ profiles that are meant to be public. Pending profile photos sit in private storage reachable only through short-lived signed links. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep the exposure of any incident small.
Core data is hosted in the European Union. Some service providers in section 6 may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
HERE is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an under-18 account exists, we remove it.
If we make a material change, we will update the date above and notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use HERE after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions about this policy or your data: ousman.didibela@gmail.com. For safety concerns, use Report or Block inside the app — those reach the moderation team directly.
